Bite Correction Appliances

Efficient, Reliable Class II Correction

Forsus Logo

The Forsus Fatigue Resistant Device promotes growth in adolescents: helping to eliminate excessive overbites, improve the fit of teeth, and possibly prevent the need for jaw surgery.

Simple

Your Forsus appliance is installed during one appointment and doesn’t require any additional lab work, so you won’t have to wait to begin your treatment. There are no daily adjustments, because the appliance provides a continuous, light force to move your jaw and teeth into their correct positions.

Comfortable

The Forsus appliance has a low profile and does not bow into the cheek the way other Class II correction appliances do. Plus, it allows for a full range of motion so your speech and eating habits won’t be affected. The best part about the Forsus appliance is that there is no external apparatus (headgear) required. It sits in the back of your mouth, so no one will even notice it’s there.

Convenient

The open coil spring is designed to be easy to brush clean, and there are no gaps to trap food. You’ll be able to continue your oral hygiene habits as usual without having to worry about cleaning around a bulky appliance. As with any orthodontic appliance, hard and sticky food should be avoided and brushing is always recommended after every meal.

Effective

The constant force given by the Forsus appliance means that it works without your having to do anything. Even while you sleep, Forsus is helping to move your jaw and teeth into alignment. The appliance works with your existing braces and wires, so there’s no need to interrupt your planned treatment.

Carriere Distalizer Appliance

Creating a Corrected Bite Without Headgear

The Carriere Distalizer is an orthodontic device developed to correct a bite without removing permanent teeth when they have erupted incorrectly. With an effect similar to headgear, but without the use of a bulky appliance, the Carriere Distalizer pushes upper teeth back to create a corrected bite prior to the addition of braces.

How does the Carriere Distalizer work?

  • First, we will create an anchor point, most commonly with a lower Essex Appliance, a passive lingual arch, full mandibular fixed appliance, or mini-screws. A Carriere Distalizer arm is then attached to the upper teeth on both sides of your mouth.
  • An elastic band is attached from the upper bar to the lower back molars and should be worn at all times except when eating.
  • With good elastic wear, your bite can be corrected in a matter of months, depending on the severity of your case.
  • When the Carriere Distalizer arms are removed, we will place upper braces to finish correcting your bite and aligning your teeth to the perfectly straight, ideal smile you’ve always wanted.

MARA

The MARA (Mandibular Anterior Repositioning Appliance) is used to move the lower jaw forward to correct a Class II bite relationship. It may be used in growing patients and often prevent the need for extractions or jaw surgery to correct a small lower jaw.

This type of appliance replaced the much-disliked “headgear” that was used previously in our field. The MARA is completely hidden and can be used DURING the time that braces are in place to minimize the overall duration of treatment.
